Brewing Community Through Art: S7CAG Exhibitions at Rosebud Coffee

We are so excited to announce that Secto Seven Contemporary Art Gallery (S7CAG) will be continuing to exhibit artists at the new Rosebud Coffee location in Highland Park, California! While construction of the new cafe is still in progress, it is slated to open to the public in late October or early November. We began working with Rosebud Coffee at their Pasadena location in August 2024 and can’t wait to present artists at the new cafe in the very near future.

The new cafe will, of course, serve delicious coffee drinks and pastries, and offer guests the chance to purchase Rosebud Coffee merchandise along with coffee-related products and accessories. Guests will be able to visit and meet with neighbors, with both table and countertop seating available. The seating will incorporate pews, paying homage to the original community-style arrangement that began at their first location. A small parking lot located behind the cafe will also be available for guests, making visits even easier.

The new Rosebud Coffee location is nestled in the heart of Highland Park, off the corner of Figueroa Street and Avenue 59. This corner of Highland Park has become a bustling community hub, with eateries such as Kitchen Mouse Cafe, Jeff’s Table, Carnal Cocina Artesanal, and Triple Beam Pizza, just to name a few. Adjacent to Rosebud Coffee—just a block or so southwest—the Highland Park Farmers Market takes place every Tuesday from 3 PM to 8 PM. For those commuting by foot or bike, the LA Metro A Line Highland Park Station is only a short distance away.

With this new addition of art exhibition space provided by Rosebud Coffee, the network of third spaces where S7CAG manages art programs expands into a new community. These third spaces—nontraditional, community-centered locations where people can encounter art in their everyday environments—bridge the gap between formal art institutions and daily life, offering meaningful encounters with creativity in accessible settings. This expansion supports S7CAG’s mission to present artists within significant community hubs, allowing guests of these establishments to engage with artwork on a daily basis—many of whom may not otherwise experience art outside of traditional galleries or museums. Third spaces like Rosebud Coffee also provide both emerging and established art collectors with opportunities to acquire artwork through what has increasingly become a contemporary approach to art presentation.

By working with a variety of artists in third spaces, S7CAG helps foster environments where both emerging and established artists can present their work to broader audiences and engage more directly with their communities—something that is often less accessible in traditional museum or gallery settings. Because of the more casual atmosphere, artists can experiment with different scales, styles, and themes, and further develop their concepts while still offering collectors unique, high-quality artwork. In addition, artists who exhibit across the various locations where S7CAG manages art programs can have their work on view in multiple communities for several months at a time, adjusting the selection of pieces shown at each exhibition space as desired.

Rosebud Coffee is not just a cafe, but a community hub that values art and connection. The opening of the new location is something we are very much looking forward to—a coming-together point for art, coffee, and neighborhood culture! We’ll make an announcement once the first art exhibition is ready for viewing.
