Jimi Martinez

Eddie Park House

10" x 8"
Gouache on cold press board
2024

This scene captures the calm and quiet ambiance of an old three-story mansion with towering columns. Known as the Eddie Park House, this property is located in South Pasadena’s Marengo Estate District. It was bequeathed to the city in 1934 by Ellen Mary Eddie, who left nearly all of her possessions to her devoted housekeeper and the town.

Once again, Martinez demonstrates his ability to authentically capture the essence of a space without bias. By including humble elements such as the yellow trash bin, gas meter, and electrical poles in the background, juxtaposed against the mansion’s grandeur and expansive grounds, he creates a more grounded, natural, and humanistic portrayal of the setting. The perspective and lighting further enhance the scene’s organic quality, presenting the space truthfully, just as it is.

Original artwork by Jimi Martinez, created in the plein air style of painting—a practice that involves producing a finished piece outdoors while capturing the natural light, color, and movement of the subject in real time. The term originates from the French phrase en plein air, meaning "in the open air." This piece, created in 2024, was painted using gouache on cold press board.

This is an original artwork; no prints are available. The piece can be purchased online and is available for local pick-up or delivery within Los Angeles County. Domestic and international shipping is available upon request, with additional charges for packaging and shipping.
