Painted on-site at the Arlington Garden in Pasadena in the plein air style (French for 'in the open air'). This method is typically utilized for painting landscapes or scenes outdoors directly from life to capture fleeting light, color, and atmosphere. Popularized by the Impressionists in the 1870s, it involves fast, loose brushwork to finish works in one sitting (alla prima), aided by portable, pre-mixed paint tubes and painting easels.
